Title: Alberta Computer Recycling vs. Computer Donations and Reuse

Source: http://www.ccnmatthews.com/news/releases

Remarks: CALGARY, ALBERTA and EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 14, 2005) -

Alberta residents beware! There is a government ran computer and electronics recycling program being heavily advertised on TV, radio, and internet. This program collects a tax from you upon purchase of computers and electronics. The money collected is used to fund multimillion dollar recycling companies in Alberta, all at a large cost. Now most of these computers being recycled don't need to be. Many are in heavy demand by local charities, non profit groups, poor people in Alberta, Canada, and all over the world. We are saddened by the governments' continued response, as well as their unwillingness to take action. The bureaucracy they have in place is unwilling to look at options, and blindly recycles valuable tools and equipment that many people can not even afford. Support on a class action appeal for change. We call on all hospitals, schools, and organizations of all kind to look at options. Calgary Drop in Center, The Red Cross, Many Veteran related institutions, are all in need of computers. We are posting a list of over 100 charities and groups in need on our website in the near future.
